Does anyone know what type of Stainless Steel material this would be?
I have a govt. contract that calls out for a Cr Ni Steel, Comp 6, Cond annealed, per an old specification AN-3-771. The part is used as a swaged sleeve on a parachute ripcord. The specification is obsolete with no replacement. Does anyone know what type of SS this is? Help? Thanks, Jeffery |

It would be a high crus nickle stainless. One modern version is 15-5 PH stainless.
It only comes wroght, as I remember, and is very tough. One key use is for the trunions and locks that hold the big jet engines on aircraft. Are you able to ask them if this is a suitable material? I'm betting it is. It is not all that easy to machine. I'm not sure what the tensile is, but it is WAY up there. The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |

You might want to look at an ASM manual of equivalant. They should be in the engineering and technology section of a university library. I use them a lot in my line of work. There is point buying them because they are huge and pricey. |
