"after replacing multiple hydraulic pumps (gear), lines and accumulator; what is the proper procedure for setting the P.S.I. on the system?" this question is giving me fits for a few reaseons: 1) I have never had to set up the pressure in a hydraulic system. 2) all the pumps i have had to replace have come to me preset on a bench system. 3) I cannot find anything on this subject anywhere online. Gentlemen, if there is someone here who can help me i would be greatly appreciative. I would prefer a link with the explanation and procedure. I want to learn, not just quote someone else.

I've never seen a fixed displacement hydraulic pump with any pressure adjust built on them where they can be pre-set. There should be a remote pressure relief valve that would be used to set system pressure. If you can post a drawing of what you have we could be of more help. Typically there is a P to T relief valve in parallel with the pressure line going to any manifold. If system pressure needs to be 2000 psi then this relief valve would be set about 15 % higher. I have never seen one either. This is a question that I have been asked during an interview. Te information I provided is all the info that they have provided for me. This is why I have had so much trouble attempting to find the answer. Thank you for your help. |

You can go to www.hydraulicspneumatics.com and access some info provided by Mr. Bud Trinkel and also www.ifps.org and download some study material for fluid power certification tests. Womack Machine from Texas used to send a fluid power book free-basic circuit design, pipe and tubing tables and product lines that they handle. I think Mr. Trinkel has his own website-maybe www.fluidpower1.com. Some of this should help you get a basic understanding of fluid power. Were you applying for a maintenance job? Good luck, Maytag |

Thank you for the help. Not maint exactly, road technician for a railroad. I have a good understanding of fluid dynamics concepts (not engineer level but 12 years hand on exp) but have been unable to correctly answer the above question. Thank you for the links. |
