: When installing hardware to hold an assembly together (screw lock flat), does it make a difference what side the lock and flat washer go on? (The nut side or the screw side.) The train of thought where I work is that the lock washer should go on the nut side so that it prevents the nut from turning off during vibration. I personally think that it doesn't matter; it's more of a personal preference thing and a profile thing. Profile meaning, if you want the screw head to sit lower. Any info is appreciated. : Thanks, : ChrisIt has always been my belief that the lockwasher is to be fitted under the nut, in a nut and bolt configuration. Conversly under the head of the screw in a tapped hole configuration (of course). I cannot find any literature on it and I am stymied to say that it could not be the other way around. The concept just sounds (or looks) odd to me. Maybe a fastener manufacture has an opinion or answer.
