I'm looking to start designing a DIY drum type sander for wood and I have a few questions, and lack an engineering background. I hope someone could be kind enough to point me in the right direction on how to figure out some of these items. 1. Torque ratio to drum size. Intuition tells me that like a car wheel, a larger diameter requires more torque to drive. I'm trying to figure out what formula would work for determining motor specs. I'm also assuming different grit produces different friction which would be part of the equation.
Any help at all on any of these questions is welcome, and if anyone wants to help I have setup a forum for this discussion. The goal is a free and open source design that anyone can use. |
