I have a 500 (4000 lbs) gallon water tank that is currently suspended on two 3" steel channel beams across an 8 foot section. I want to replace the steel beams with aluminum. What size will the channel need to be to support this weight or should I go to an I-beam? Thanks,

You need figure out exactly which steel channel shape is installed and the loading configuration. See /standard_material/Steel_channel_properties.htm. The loading configuration is just which side of the beam is the load applied to. Modified by Kelly Bramble at Mon, Feb 19, 2007, 08:19:52 |

You could just galvanize some steel channels if it's corrosion resistance you're after. |
