When we design for welding, we treat a weld as a line and we calculate the total stress on the weld. We have the allowable weld stress; for example, allowable weld stress is equaled to 0.40 of the yield strength of base materials.
How do I calculate the design factor of safety of the weld design? Is it the ratio of the allowable weld stress to the total stress on the weld? Please provide the authorative source of the answer to my questions. Thanks. |

Suggest you try "Machinerys Hand Book" In my edition 23, what you are looking for is on page 208 under "Factors of Safety". Hope this helps, Thanks Eddy |
