Hi all,

i have a problem trying to figure out how to provide a power source to two different dc motors, any help is appreciated!

I have 2 dc permanant magnet motors :
1)12V,max current 10
2)24V, 1Hp, so max current would be about 30A

i was thinking of using a 24V 60Ah lead acid battery as the power supply,
connecting both motor in parallel (but i use a dc/dc converter for the 12V 10A motor). The thing is, what i thought would be the problem is the fact that the current supplied from power supply is much larger for the 12V 10A motor.buy anyways,Is this type of arrangement going to work?

thank you

Why don't you hook up 2 12V batteries in series and then you could tap off one of them for the 12V motor and across them for the 24V and avoid the DC to DC converter.
Also your 1HP DC motor will draw considerably more than 30amps on startup, maybe 3to 5X that number.

I like zekeman's idea, one embellishment would be to alternate the battery that you draw 12V from occasionally - this would make for better charging performance.

As for the power supply, remember that power is drawn by the motor, not 'pushed' by the supply. As long as you have your voltage correct, the only issue will be how long you can run for before you need a charge.

As a point of interest, a trickle charger could be left on permanently. During high loads, the battery discharges, during low loads, it recharges.

hmm, due to space constraint, i could not install 2 12v batteries so i opted to a lower voltage/power pmdc motor.
I use 2 motors, both 12V,but one is 10A and the other rated at 630 watts. im planning to connect them to a 12V 90Ah(yuasa) lead acid battery in parallel.
i think it will work..
