I work in an electric motor manufacturing company and occasionally we get the runout issues on our motor housings. Currently we measure runouts on a boring mill with a locater plate. First we check the runouts on the plate and then set the complete housing vertically with a machined face on the locater. Then we check for runouts on top face and turn. Sometimes we have to shim the lower face on the locater plate. I am wondering if it is possible to get a fixture on which we can set the housings and check runouts with a dial-gage. This will keep my boring mill free for regular production jobs. Any ideas from experts ??? Maybe a laser equipment or some rigid fixture ???? |

Sure, you've come to the right place for this one. First, are you interested in checking housings, rotors, stators, or other parts... or all the above? Budget? Quantity per day? What sizes are we talking about? Of coarse a CMM is the absolute answer but the price is quite steep, so please answer the questions and we will go from there. The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |
