Does anyone know the best method to demagetize a large steel sleeve. The sleve is 65" diameter and 55" high. Thickness 2". The sleeve is split on an angle and that is where the magnetism is concentrated. We have tried getting a welder here and applying some DC voltage around the diameter but that has done nothing. Also we have placed it on a large magetic service plate, but that has also done nothing. I am located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. TIA!! |

I'd try AC welding leads wrapped around the pipe. DC will magnetize (polarize) it. With the AC leads wrapped around the pipe the welder needs to do some heavy current welding off to the side. .... "I've heard" that it helps to bang on the pipe while the current is flowing through the leads. If that doesn't work... ?? The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |
