I want to calc which thread is the strongest under a compression load, 1 ½" x6 TPI BSW (OD38.1mm & ID 32.7mm) or M40x2 pitch (OD40mm & ID37.402mm). Both bolts are manufacture from stainless steel 304.
According to my calc the 1 ½" BSW have the shortest engagement length of the two. |

Bennie
Calculate the cross section of the thread at the pitch line, times the length of the pitch circle. Pi x D x cross section. Boggs is correct, Machinery's Handbook will be very helpful on this. |
