How is the file translation between these two programs? Can files be interchanged freely? Im more concerned with Solid Edge -> Solid Works. If I move my Solid Edge files to Solid Works do I lose any generality? Are the certain types of design that dont transfer well?
Thanks |

I don't believe Solid Edge and Solid Works files are interchangeable without a translation. I know that part and assembly files are saved as .par and .asm perspectively in both software packages. |

SW and SE are developped base on the same kernel named PARASOLID, they are not compatible one from another except that now SW say that he can open native SE files. But still even if SW opens SE files, he needs to translate them into his language so there is a conversion needed. If you want to open SW files with SE you have to save the files in Parasolid (.x_t) or (.x_b) then you will be able to open them with SE, once again the software will translate it into his language. The two softwares have importing add-in to rebuild automatically the features tree of an imported part but from what I have seen the files generated by this type of conversion software are not very usable. It's better to rebuild them by yourself. I hope it helps. Patrick |
