hi/ i want know the optimum design conection pipe line between the recivoer and piston pump in suction side to avoid the cavitation and gas pockets and the optimum location of pump w.r.t. receivoir (the pipe line shape) thank uModified by afifi at Mon, Jul 19, 2004, 05:19:23 |

Velocity on the suction side should be kept 2-4 ft. per sec. The formula to figure the correct size pipe is V=GPM*.3208/area V is your ideal velocity. Gpm is the max flow. Area is the inside of your pipe in sq. inches. I always put a pressure gage in the suction side -this way I can keep an eye on the pressure Maytag |

All hydraulic pumps will perform better and last longer when they have a flooded suction arrangement. Some of your smaller units are setup with the pump and motor both on top of the tank-this is a very bad design and is done only to save space and sell more pumps as the pump would always operate in negative pressure on the suction side. Some othe small units will have the pump submerged in the tank with the motor sitting atop the tank. This is somewhat better but far from ideal from a maintenace standpoint. For all applications I use a flooded suction arrangement and try and configure a postive pressure of 1-2 PSIG at the suction side with the pump at full flow. Your tank should be built with a baffle inside and the return oil seperated from the clean by this baffle -the suction line will need to be tied into the clean side and sized accordingly to provide the 1-2PSIG.
