floor joist holes

I need to know what size holes I can put in floor joist and still maintain strength.

I would say a 1 inch hole in a 2X10 would not be a problem, providing that hole is at the midpoint of the beam.Electricians and plumbers routinely do this.
If you understand beam theory, you could find how bending and shear stresses are affected by holes in the beam by going to the literature. But you must stay away from the edges.
