sirs, good day!!! i am a mechanical engineer and i am currently studying the performance of our alfa laval plate heat exchanger. Our alfa laval plate heat exchanger is used to cool acid in our absorbing system in our sulfuric acid plant..My findings tells me that the delta t of the acid is higher compared to the design delta t. This should be good if the efficiency is evaluated but my contention is that we were recording larger delta t since the required flow to the heat exchanger is less. i tried to investigate further and i found out that the head that our pump is operating is lower than the original design..the pump is supposed to deliver 850m3/hr at a head of 25 meters but since we installed the alfa laval, the new computed head is 21 m so that the expected flow now is around 1000m3/hr. It is proved already that the pump is capable of handling such flow..now a problem arise since the equipment was only designed to accept 850m3/hr against the 1000m3/hr expected delivery. in the acid plate cooler, the pressure inlet was high indicating that the acid has a hard time passing thru the plates..is my contention correct..pls u got to help me and what kind of remedy can i propose to solve the problem.. |

how about to put a restriction valve donward the acid plate , so you grow up the pressure , donw the flow to the rated 850 m3/h.
