I am trying to decide the best material to make a core out of. I am going to wrap a 0.75” cylinder with carbon fiber then remove the cylinder after the resin is cured. I plan on doing this by cooling the cylinder down. Hopefully causing the cylinder to contract to allow removal. What metals will expand and contract the most? |

It sounds like your using the core for a mold. Why dont you use a wax that the resin doesnt stick too. and it will slide off when your done. try "Tap Plastics" they are a good resource |

Check out /properties_of_metals.htm,
It looks like aluminum and brass are your best choices. Typically, molded parts/molding tools are designed with a draft angle. The draft angle or taper helps removal of the molded part from the mold. Additionaly, surface finish will effect your ability to remove the part from the mold. You should consider a surface finish not greater than 25 Ra. |
