motor sizing | |||

The application I'm working on is a winch lifting and holding a load. The winch or motor also has to know how much cable is wound up. I thought a stepper motor would be best for this application to avoid brakes, encoders, etc. The requirements I have calculated are as follows: 24V input
Also, the motor needs to be as light and small as possible. I'm a novice with motors, so any help selecting a motor and gear head would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

I question how you came up with the power.
If I understand you, your spec should be the maximum linear speed of the winch, the accuracy of the position and the lifting force. Then we can talk about the motor and gearbox you need. You can't 1/2 solve this and then ask for help. Post the spec and we can help. |

Not sure what you're doing, but my gut tells me that for safety you should have some way of making sure it doesn't unwind under load if it loses power. Maybe something like a self-locking worm gear or a spring loaded brake. I'll let others assist you with the motor. If it were me I would contact a good local distributor and let them figure out a recommendation. That is, after all, their job. |
