Hello, I am adding a building to an existing site drawing. I used a GPS to get points to plot the approximate location of this building on the drawing. I cannot figure out how to mark these points on the drawing. For example my first GPS point is N40d20.644' & W76d7.348'. Thanks to reply. |

despite the GPS precision , you need to convert such values in X and Y values , as they are not angles , they are point position.
So first take a fix GPS position on the old Drawing , and then all the other GPS position. Then you need to convert such geological positions on distance. I do not know how to do it as in the surveyor pratice. Maybe the GPS could give you the X and Y coordinates instead the latitude and longitude values. But remember that the heart is about 40000 Km round perimeter, so divede it by 360 Degree and you have the distance from each degree, then divide such distance by 60 and will have the distance for each minute degree. Shure the GPS shall give you X and Y coordinates from a fix point. See at the multimap. com , how they convert latitude and longitude position on X and Y coordinates; locate your city and take the values they show , then locate a neigborh city you know the distance from your's and see the x and y values feel free to contac me at my mail

Your GPS is most likely only accurate within ± 30 feet, at best, as far a figuring goes. I would mark your new added building by giving a dimension from existing buildings to one corner of the building. Then orient the building to a direction. As far as GPS location you note them as 40.20.644N 76.07.348W after converting them to decimal degrees. -randy- The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |
