I want to rebuild my gangway from shoreside platform to the floating dock.
I want to use "L" (angle iron) and 5/4 wood for the top. My question: What size angle iron do I need to spane 20 feetm and have a width of gangway 26"? There will be no support other than at the top and at the bottom. Maximum weight at any one time in the center, +/- 15 feet, will not be greater than 400 pounds. The material should be hot dipped galvanized OR aluminum....cost IS a concern. Thank you for your help. Mike |

You failed to mention a hand rail. The thing is the hand rail can be designed into the gangway to form a bridge truss. This is how you are going to be able to gain the strength you need. The worst suggestion of your lifetime may be the catalyst to the grandest idea of the century, never let suggestions go unsaid nor fail to listen to them. |

Randy, thank you. I was hoping not to use a handrail. Any suggestions? Soap |
