I am seeking the beam formulas for bending and deflection for a design that I am working on. The beam will be fixed at both ends. There will be a uniformly distributed load centered between the ends, but the load does not reach ends. for example a beam spanning 6 feet, and the distributed load only acting for 2 feet centered from the ends (2 feet from either end) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a several beam deflection page and calculators located here: /calculators.htm. The closest for your application are: /beam_bending/beam_bending4.htm

I suggest AISC'S book "Steel Construction Manual". This is a very simple formula. The reference book has several illistrations of beam formulas. Hope this helps, Thanks, Scooter |

I've been using the Canadian Handbook of Steel Construction, among other sources. While it has many beam formulas, it does not have one of the situation desired. For beams with both ends fixed it has for point loads and for a distributed load fully between the beam ends. But not for where the distributed load centered and does not reach the ends. I also do not readily have access to the book you have referred to. If this situation is in there could you please post the formulas for me. |
