This example Illustrates a workhead performing a somewhat unusual function. The complete diaphragm assembly consists of a leather diaphragm, an outer ring and two sealing rings. An operator loads the outer ring in a workholding fixture mounted on a rotary indexing table. The circular leather diaphragm is then placed in position and a single sealing ring is added. Before adding a further sealing ring to the assembly it is necessary for the leather diaphragm edges to be folded towards the centre and flattened and this workhead is for performing this operation. A workhead is necessary as the leather cannot easily be formed by hand allowing an equal amount of surplus material for tuck-in purposes.
