Epoxy Coatings Review
Industrial Coating Types, Processes and Design
Epoxy based coatings are thermosetting polymers which will cure when mixed with a catalyst agent or hardener. When epoxy base (polyepoxide) is mixed with a catalyst, an exothermic curing process begins. The exothermic curing process causes the epoxy base to form a strong stress tolerant, pliable compound.
Epoxy based coatings are available in many different application blends, These blends may contain a wide variety of filler materials. Typical filler materials include talc, silica, alumina, carbon fiber, fiberglass, composites, polyester, vinyl, easter and minerals. Other additives are mixed into the epoxy base to improve flexibility or adhesion characteristics.
Epoxy based coatings applications include: epoxy based powder coatings, fusion bonded epoxy powder coatings, paints, and paint primer
Epoxy based coatings are used in automotive paints, marine paints, industrial machinery, food storage containers, and appliance coatings.
